Thomas Rutsito
Former international Marcus Mokoena had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked M.Rhinos, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 5.
The player had a double-double of 22 points and 24 rebounds, while his team crushed L.Pride (#4, 1-3) with 19-point margin 77-58. M.Rhinos is placed at 2nd position in South African BNL. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and M.Rhinos won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. Mokoena has many years of experience at M.Rhinos, through which he has constantly improved. Marcus Mokoena has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 17.5ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 16.5rpg) and averages impressive 2.0bpg,4.5spg and 55.6% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was Damien Kasongo of L.Pride. Kasongo had a very good evening with a double-double of 22 points and 28 rebounds. Of course he led L.Pride to another comfortable win 67-50 over EC Windbreakers (#6, 0-2) being unquestionably team leader. This victory allowed L.Pride to move up to 4th position in Group A. 3 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory L.Pride managed to get this year. Kasongo is a newcomer at L.Pride, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.8ppg (#9). He also registered 16.0 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was Zimbabwean forward Thomas Rutsito (202-F/C-97) of NC Zebras (#5). Rutsito scored 20 points and grabbed fifteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of NC Zebras, leading his team to a 84-76 win against EC Windbreakers (#6, 0-2). NC Zebras can only dream about fighting for top spots in Group A. They have rather bad season and 1-3 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Rutsito he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Rutsito has individually a great season in South Africa. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 15.0rpg (4th best).
Other top performing players last week:
4. Panti Kalubi (F) of L.Pride - 9 points and 14 rebounds

9. Joshua Tawengwa) of M.Rhinos - 13 points and 7 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
